Description
DOXCY 100MG contains Doxycycline, a highly versatile, broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the Tetracycline class. Known for its excellent tissue penetration and convenient once or twice-daily dosing, it is widely utilized for treating a diverse range of bacterial, parasitic, and atypical infections.
What it Contains & How it Works: Each capsule contains of Doxycycline (usually as the monohydrate or hyclate salt). Doxycycline is a bacteriostatic agent; it halts the growth and reproduction of bacteria rather than killing them outright, allowing the body’s immune system to clear the infection. Its mechanism involves interrupting the bacteria’s ability to create necessary proteins. It achieves this by reversibly binding to the ribosomal subunit within the bacterial cell, thereby preventing the attachment of transfer () and effectively inhibiting protein synthesis.
Primary Uses and Benefits: DOXCY 100MG is indicated for the treatment of numerous infections, demonstrating efficacy against many Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and atypical organisms. Key uses include:
- Severe Acne and Rosacea: Due to its anti-inflammatory properties and effect on skin bacteria.
- Respiratory Infections: Such as walking pneumonia caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae.
- Tick-Borne Diseases: Including Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
- Urogenital Infections: (e.g., those caused by Chlamydia trachomatis).
- Malaria Prophylaxis: (Prevention when traveling to endemic areas).
Potential Side Effects (Precautions): The most common side effects are gastrointestinal upset, nausea, and, importantly, photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to sunlight). Doxycycline must be taken with a full glass of water and the patient should remain upright for at least minutes to minimize the risk of esophageal irritation or ulceration. It is generally contraindicated in children under the age of 8 and in pregnant/nursing mothers due to the risk of permanent tooth discoloration and enamel hypoplasia in developing teeth. DOXCY 100MG is a prescription-only medication.
