A-ZIT 500MG contains Azithromycin, a high-potency antibiotic belonging to the Macrolide class, known for its rapid absorption, excellent tissue penetration, and extended half-life, which allows for shorter, simpler dosing regimens. This strength is typically used as a loading dose or for treating more severe or resistant infections.
What it Contains & How it Works: Each tablet provides 500mg of Azithromycin. Azithromycin acts as a bacteriostatic agent (at the 500mg strength, it can often be bactericidal) by interfering with the bacteria’s ability to grow and replicate. It works by binding specifically to the ribosomal subunit inside the bacterial cell. This binding action prevents the bacteria from synthesizing essential proteins required for their survival and proliferation, thereby clearing the infection. Its long half-life means that drug levels remain effective in the tissues for several days after the last dose, a phenomenon known as the post-antibiotic effect.
